Background

Oracle Design is in the process of re-envisioning the process of setting and achieving goals in the workplace. My team and I partnered with Oracle to learn more about the goal setting habits and needs of Generation Z and design a solution catered to their unique needs.

Research Methods

Secondary Research

Survey
We collected 97 surveys that was sent out on various social media platforms to gather data on people’s goal setting habits in a personal and workplace context.

Interviews
We interviewed 17 employees and asked them about their goals, goal-setting habits, and company culture. Below are selected quotes:

Research Synthesis + Insights

To synthesize our research, we created data visualizations of our survey responses and an affinity map of the insights we gained from user interviews to help us visualize the data we collected.

Key Insights

Personas and Journey Maps
To consolidate our findings and user archetypes, we created two personas and visualized their individual goal-setting experiences through comprehensive journey maps.

After constructing our personas, we created journey maps to visualize at what point in their goal-setting process they were experiencing their respective pain points and needs.

After synthesizing our research, we wanted to address the following pain points and reframe our project scope.

Reflection

We can’t go in detail about the rest of the project publicly due to the NDA our team signed, but we finished the project off by ideating, prototyping our solutions as low fidelity sketches, and iterating on them until we reached high-fidelity screens. If we had more time, we would’ve loved to user test our designs to get actual feedback from end users.

Learning about and designing for Gen-Z was a rewarding experience, and we are very thankful for the mentorship of the team at Oracle. From working on this project, I learned the value of storytelling in presenting the value of design solutions, and I’m thankful for the opportunities we had to present our work to over 20+ stakeholders at Oracle. I also learned more about the complexities of designing for enterprise solutions and the importance of considering different use cases and scenarios when designing for such multi-faceted products.
